Hammer On Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 8, 2026

Hammer On is a guitar tab reader for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, made by Jake Vieke ("I", "me"). This policy explains what information the app handles and what happens to it. The short version: your tabs are yours, they stay on your device and in your own iCloud account, and I never see them.

Information the app stores

Hammer On stores the following on your device, and in your iCloud Drive if iCloud is turned on:

  • Tab files you import, create, or edit (text, PDF, and Guitar Pro files), including their titles, contents, and any notes you add
  • The list of websites you've added as search locations
  • Your in-app settings, such as scroll speed, display preferences, and tuner settings

This data lives in Hammer On's own container and in your personal iCloud Drive. It is not sent to me or to any server I operate. I do not have access to it.

iCloud syncing

Hammer On keeps your library in a "Hammer On" folder in your iCloud Drive so it syncs between your devices and is visible in the Files app. That data is stored in your own Apple Account and is covered by Apple's privacy policy. You can turn this off in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Saved to iCloud.

Searching for tabs online

Hammer On includes a web browser so you can search for tabs on websites you choose and save them into your library. When you use the browser, you are visiting those websites directly, and they may collect information according to their own privacy policies. When you save a tab from a page, the app downloads that one page to pull the tab text out of it; nothing else is downloaded, no browsing history is kept by the app, and nothing is sent anywhere other than to the site you asked for. Hammer On does not track the pages you visit.

Microphone (tuner)

The tuner uses your device's microphone to detect the pitch of a string. Audio is analyzed on the device in real time and is never recorded, saved, or transmitted. The system asks for your permission the first time you open the tuner, and you can change it later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Hand tracking (Apple Vision Pro)

On Apple Vision Pro, Hammer On can track your hands so you can fret and strum a virtual guitar. Hand-tracking data is processed on the device by visionOS and is never stored or transmitted. You control this permission in the Vision Pro's Settings → Privacy & Security → Hands & Eyes.

Information I do not collect

  • No account or sign-in is required, and none is offered
  • No analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are included in the app
  • No location, contacts, photos, or other personal data is accessed
  • No data is sold, rented, or shared with third parties

Crash reports

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may send me anonymized crash reports. These do not identify you or include the contents of your tabs. You control this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Deleting your data

Deleting Hammer On from your device removes all of its local data. Files synced to iCloud Drive can be deleted from the Files app, or by turning off iCloud for Hammer On and choosing to delete the data.

Children

Hammer On does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If the way Hammer On handles data ever changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.
